Hawks sign rookie Mouhamed Gueye to four-year deal
Mouhamed Gueye Brett Davis-USA TODAY Sports

The Hawks have signed second-round draft pick Mouhamed Gueye to a four-year, $7.64MM deal, Michael Scotto of Hoops Hype tweets. The signing is official, the team’s PR department tweets.

Gueye was the 39th overall pick, which the Hawks acquired in a draft-night trade with the Celtics. The Hawks sent their 2027 second-round pick to Boston in exchange for the rights to Gueye. The 39th pick was originally held by Charlotte.

Gueye, a 6’11” power forward out of Washington State, was an All-Pac-12 First Team selection during his second and final NCAA season. Across 33 contests in 2022/23, he averaged 14.3 PPG, 8.4 RPG, 1.9 APG, 0.8 SPG and 0.8 BPG for the Cougars.

Gueye is a developmental player. He led the Pac-12 in double-doubles, even though he’s played the sport for just 3 1/2 years. He grew up as a soccer player, Scotto notes.

Though terms of the four-year deal weren’t disclosed, it’s highly unlikely all of those years are guaranteed.
